Our client, a food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate company, is seeking a proactive and results driven Quality Engineer/ Quality & Compliance Manager to oversee all quality management activities for its food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) flake production facility.
ROLE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will be responsible for incoming material inspections, in-process quality control, final product testing, quality documentation, customer specifications, and implementation of international certification standards required for export markets and ensure the facility consistently meets food-grade quality benchmarks and maintains full compliance with all relevant international standards and customer requirements.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Control & Inspections
- Develop and implement quality control procedures across the entire production process
- Establish quality standards for incoming PET bottles
- Monitor contamination levels including PVC, PP/PE caps, labels, metals, and organic contamination
- Approve incoming raw materials before processing
- Conduct routine quality inspections throughout production
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final quality inspections
- Perform moisture testing, contamination inspections, colour analysis, bulk density checks, particle size checks, and product sampling
- Issue Certificates of Analysis (COA) for customer shipments
Certification & Compliance Management
- Lead implementation of ISO 9001
- Lead implementation of ISO 14001
- Lead implementation of Global Recycled Standard (GRS)
- Lead implementation of recyclability of plastic packaging (RecyClass) Certification
- Lead implementation of European certification scheme for plastic recycling facilities
- Support Food and Drug Administration food-contact compliance initiatives
- Support European Food Safety Authority food-contact compliance initiatives
- Maintain all certification records and audit documentation
Documentation & Record Keeping
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions
- Maintain inspection reports, corrective action reports, supplier quality records, and customer quality records
- Ensure complete traceability from incoming bottles to exported finished product
- Customer Quality Support
- Respond to customer quality inquiries
- Support customer audits
- Coordinate quality documentation requests
- Investigate complaints and implement corrective actions
Team Training
- Train employees on quality standards, contamination prevention, sorting techniques, inspection procedures, food-grade handling requirements, and Good Manufacturing practices
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in in plastics manufacturing, recycling, food packaging, beverage manufacturing, or polymer processing
- Experience with ISO systems is strongly preferred
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of quality control processes (inspection, testing, production monitoring)
- Ability to develop sops, documentation, and traceability systems
- Familiarity with certifications and compliance with food-contact standards
