Our client, a food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate company, is seeking a proactive and experienced General Manager /Operations Manager to oversee all quality management activities for its food- grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) operations in Ghana

ROLE PROFILE

The successful candidate will be responsible for plant operations, production output, procurement, staffing, quality performance, export logistics, financial controls, customer relationships, and business growth initiatives and will be accountable for ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, profitably, and in compliance with international export and certification requirements.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Management

  • Manage daily plant operations
  • Oversee production planning and scheduling
  • Ensure production targets are achieved
  • Monitor plant efficiency and uptime
  • Coordinate all departments

Production Management

  • Oversee incoming PET bottle processing
  • Oversee manual sorting operations
  • Oversee shredding operations
  • Oversee hot washing operations
  • Oversee friction washing operations
  • Oversee drying operations
  • Oversee final packaging operations
  • Monitor production throughout, yield losses, downtime, and material recovery rates

Team Leadership

  • Manage Procurement Officer
  • Manage Quality Engineer
  • Manage Machine Line Supervisor
  • Manage Manual Sorting Team Lead and sorting team
  • Manage Logistics & Warehouse Assistant
  • Lead hiring, training, performance management, and employee development

Procurement Oversight

  • Ensure consistent bottle supply
  • Ensure competitive procurement pricing
  • Develop supplier relationships
  • Monitor supplier performance and material quality
  • Control raw material costs

Financial Management

  • Manage monthly operating budget
  • Control labour costs
  • Monitor maintenance expenses
  • Manage utility consumption and costs
  • Review profitability and cost reduction opportunities
  • Prepare weekly and monthly management reports

Export & Logistics Management

  • Oversee container loading
  • Coordinate export documentation
  • Manage shipping schedules
  • Coordinate freight forwarders and customs brokers
  • Ensure on-time customer deliveries

 Customer Management

  • Support customer audits
  • Coordinate customer visits
  • Address quality inquiries
  • Support commercial discussions
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and repeat business

Certification & Compliance Oversight

  • Support ISO 9001 implementation and maintenance
  • Support ISO 14001 implementation and maintenance
  • Support Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification
  • Support RecyClass certification
  • Support EuCertPlast certification
  • Ensure audit readiness and documentation compliance

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Management, or a related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of management experience in plastics or recycling industry.
  • Experience managing production teams, procurement, logistics, and quality systems

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have Strong leadership, reporting, and decision-making skills
  • Must have knowledge of cost control, budgeting, and financial performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with quality and compliance systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, GRS, RecyClass, EuCertPlast)
  • Must have Strong knowledge of production operations and plant management (sorting, washing, shredding, drying, packaging)
