FOOD ORGANIC AGRONOMIST

Our client, an organic farm, has immediate employment for a self-motivated, experienced, and talented FOOD ORGANIC AGRONOMIST to help with their daily and general operations.

ROLE PROFILE

The successful candidate will demand an in-depth knowledge of herbs and how to grow them organically. He or she would also require the utilisation of skills in crop production, soil management and control to advance the production of herbs.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work to increase crop growth rates, and optimal planting times and use various techniques to ensure the success rate of planting materials.
• Conduct soil analysis to determine nutrient levels or pH levels and further work on creating suitability for their cultivation.
• Responsible for identifying plant and soil diseases, and pests and developing organic solutions.
• Responsible for effective organic weed control strategies.
• Conduct research on topics such as crop rotation patterns, pesticide use, and new farm techniques favourable for increasing the yield of herbs.
• Assist in designing irrigation schedules for the farm based on soil composition and climate conditions.
• Conduct training on trending organic practices and techniques through educational presentations to all team members regularly.
• Develop better planting, cultivation and harvesting techniques to improve crop yield and solve problems for clients.
• Research and promote agricultural strategies to counter the effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest damage.
• Visit fields to collect seed, plant, and soil samples.
• Test samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
• Assist with plant sourcing, testing, and selection.
• Keep detailed records regarding fields, customers, crops and samples.
• Generate reports and present findings to management, clients, or other interested parties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• A bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agriculture, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in organic farming.
• Experience in the cultivation of herbs is preferable.

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven ability to plan organic agricultural activities of an organic farm.
• Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office and diagnostic scientific software.
• Must have a good understanding of herbs.
• Outstanding skills in conducting, research and various analysis on crops, soil, water, etc.
• Strong leadership skills and demonstrated success with managing a team.
• Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments.
• Good sales and presentation skills.
• Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods.
