COMMERCIAL STEERING MANAGER

Our client, a reputable company within the shipping industry is looking for a highly efficient and proactive COMMERCIAL STEERING MANAGER to assist with the company’s operations.

ROLE PROFILE

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing pricing policies and guidelines to assist in achieving the goals of the company. He or she will also establish a culture that encourages customer focus, individual development efficiency, and collaborations, and creates an environment for process improvements.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and manage all commercial steering matters related to Area MAW.
  • Pursue the goals set by management with a special focus on optimizing the volume generated by the area and maximizing both revenues & contribution levels.
  • Manage revenue concept introduction & development.
  • Guide, coach, and instruct area steering forces for sales, slot control, and revenue management.
  • Define for the team: vessels’ utilization/contribution/revenue targets.
  • Responsible for Weighted Vehicle Fleet, budget, and revisions
  • Attend Association for Project Management calls, Balanced scorecard meetings, Monetary Policy Committee meetings, equipment meetings, and any other that is necessary / required.
  • Monitor customer performance and highlight findings to sales to improve business where needed.
  • Analyze competition and market statistical data
  • Represent areas within committees, pursue efficiencies, and cost savings.
  • Liaise whenever required with the management of other areas, transportation management systems, and regions.
  • Safeguard effective equipment marketing by steering containers to equipment demand areas and depleting surplus areas.
  • Develop competitive rate and PG in consultation with trade management within the guidelines of the company.
  • Monitor area bookings versus allocation, targets, and budget.
  • Execute special projects as assigned by Area Management.
  • Participate in various company working groups, business processes, and any areas as requested by Senior management.
  • Assist local management in the selection/hire staff.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of vast experience in a shipping company or an adjacent industry
  • A minimum degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a relevant field; MSC/MA is a plus
  • Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or other relevant role
  • Proven experience in sales and/or marketing and managing relationships with key clients

REQUIREMENT

  • Must have experience working in Trade management in a shipping/logistics company is an added advantage
  • Proven leadership experience having successfully managed large teams.
  • Exceptional ability to inspire and motivate people.
  • Capable of fluently speaking, reading, and writing in English – any other additional languages are a plus.
  • Must have a high customer and results orientation coupled with outstanding communication skills.
  • Must have experience negotiating and delivering results.
  • Strong analytics and good organizational skills.
  • Proven experience in sales and marketing and managing relationships with key clients
