SENIOR ACCOUNTS OFFICER

Our client, a reputable company within the health insurance sector is looking for an experienced professional with deep industry knowledge and expertise to provide leadership in the position of Senior Accounts Officer.

ROLE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and managing the financial and management accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure prudent financial management and support for the company’s operations.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct financial modelling, forecasts and analysis to support the development of strategic initiatives, investments and programs for the company.
  • Develop comprehensive budget templates, guidelines and report systems and monitor to ensure that budget inputs from all departments and branch offices are completed and submitted within the agreed time frame.
  • Analyse budget inputs from all department units and prepare the overall operating budget of the company for review and approval.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to analyse budgetary performance to monitor and control approved budget.
  • Monitor the preparation of variance analysis of revenue and expenditure against the approved budget for prompt corrective actions on any deviations.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls.
  • Direct the development of accounts payable/receivable systems and monitor its implementation to ensure that all payments are in line with approved financial policies/guidelines.
  • Responsible for the review of accounts controls, reports and transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with internal and external accounting policies and standards.
  • Monitor the compliance of statutory deductions and payments (i.e. SSNIT, Tax and Withholding Tax etc.).
  • Develop and manage relationships with relevant authorities concerning statutory deductions and payments.
  • Monitor cost expenditure and prepare relevant reports to guide management in decision-making.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of appropriate accounting control systems to ensure sound financial management.
  • Supervise the implementation of procurement policies, anti-fraud guidelines and processes for the company.
  • Manage investment portfolio and other financial assets of the company.
  • Manage the process of reconciliation of accounts with health service providers (HSPs).
  • Stay abreast with legislation, IFRS and international best practices on Financial Management.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience.
  • Experience with the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards 17 (IFRS 17) will be an added advantage.

REQUIREMENT

  • Must have a professional qualification (ACCA, ICAG etc).
  • Must be a member of a recognised professional body.
  • Proficiency in the use of insurance software and tools.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have knowledge of insurance principles under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Ability to plan and prepare company budget and ensure the company stays within financial constraints.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage tasks to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of accounting duties.
  • Must be proactive and suggest solutions to potential problems.
  • Must be detail-oriented to accurately identify and review discrepancies.
